Research Policy & Strategy
The Athens School of Fine Arts is comprised of the Department of Visual Arts (painting, sculpture, printmaking) and the Theory & History Department. Research in the Department of Visual Arts is based on the School’s extensive collection of Greek and International Art, in particular painting, sculpture, mosaics and religious iconography. In Theory & History, research is concerned with cultural inquiry in fields related to the History and Theory of Art and Artistic Research, such as theories of architecture, queer theory, politics and economics. Research is developed through seminars, exhibitions and workshops within the school and with external partners, as well as through institutional placements. The Department of Visual Arts has recently established many collaborative partnerships with national and international museums and institutions in Greece, and it has worked on many Erasmus + projects, aiming to internationalize research and knowledge exchange.
